Microplastics No Thanks

Grabbing a plastic water bottle at the store is convenient, but knowing the potential downsides is important. New research suggests that we might be ingesting thousands of microplastic particles yearly just from drinking water stored in plastic containers.

Here are some key points to consider:

  • Microplastic Consumption: On average, a person consuming only bottled water might ingest up to 16,000 microplasticparticles annually. That's a significant amount.
  • Cap Contamination: Every time you twist the cap on a plastic bottle, you could be releasing around 500 microplastic particles into your drink.
  • Temperature Impact: Fluctuating temperatures, like leaving a bottle in a hot car, can accelerate plastic degradation, leading to even more microplastic contamination.
  • Widespread Presence: Studies have shown that over 90% of tested plastic bottles contain microplastics. This means it's a widespread problem.

What can you do?

Use reusable glass water bottles or stainless steel bottles. Just make sure to clean them on a regular basis to keep the water clean and healthy.
